Caption: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg (pictured) is making Bill Gates and the Google guys look like laggards.

With Facebook's (FB +14.10%) huge run-up Thursday, Zuckerberg's wealth has shot up by more than $3 billion to $29.7 billion, according to Wealth-X. That's up from a net worth of $20 billion that he hit at Facebook's IPO in 2012.

And his net worth has nearly tripled since those dark days of Facebook's post-IPO depression, when Zuckerberg was down to his last $10 billion.

Sure there are plenty of people who are richer than Zuckerberg, including the Google (GOOG +2.57%) guys, who are both worth more than $30 billion. And Bill Gates and Larry Ellison are still the overlords of tech wealth, with $75 billion and $42 billion respectively, according to Bloomberg's Billionaires Index.

But Zuckerberg may be the richest 29-year-old American ever -- even adjusted for inflation.

We don't know exactly what Gates was worth in 1984, when he was 29. But in March of 1986, when Microsoft (MSFT +0.55%) went public, Gates' shares had a public value of around $234 million. Not bad for a 30-year-old. But in today's dollars, that would be around $500 million --not even enough to make the Forbes list. (Microsoft owns and publishes Top Stocks, an MSN Money site.)

As for the Google guys, they weren't official billionaires until 2004. Larry Page and Sergey Brin debuted on the Forbes list that year with $1 billion each. By that time, both Page and Brin were 30.

Of course, after the Google IPO that same year, they soared well past $1 billion each.

As for Ellison, the first reports of his net worth started appearing in the late 1980s, when he was in his 40s and his net worth was put at around $400 million to $500 million.

Granted, there may be some inheritors throughout American history who may have -- on an inflation-adjusted basis -- been into the billions. But even John D. Rockefeller, Howard Hughes, the Astors and Waltons didn't have fortunes in their 20s equal to $29 billion today.

It proves once again that the speed of wealth creation today -- along with the scale -- has never been greater. Someday, perhaps another 20-something will even surpass Zuckerberg's record.

8 costly mistakes on your credit card agreement

Even after scouring the web for the best credit card offer, your choice might still end up costing you more money than you expect. In some cases, unexpected fees and penalties can land you upside down on an otherwise great deal. Other times, a benefit buried among your card's features could have allowed you to eliminate another expense. Watch out for all eight of these ways that you could be leaking cash from your household budget.

1. Losing your rewards points and rebates

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, most rewards credit card customers earn about $25 in points or rebates every month. However, your bank can void your rewards balance if you miss a payment, exceed your credit limit or violate just about any rule in your agreement. If you've been using your rewards balance as a shadow savings account for travel planning or holiday shopping, monitor your account so you don't accidentally lose your rewards.

2. Paying retroactive interest on zero-percent offers

Although we tend to see this issue with retail credit cards more often than on other types of accounts, it can still cause your wallet plenty of pain. If you purchased a big-ticket item during a special "no interest, no payments" promotion, read the fine print closely. Some credit cards will assess you a finance charge at your account's maximum rate for the entire original purchase if you fail to pay off that promotional balance before a deadline. That deadline might not coincide with your account's statement cycle, either.

3. Settling for a late payment fee on your statement

Mistakes happen to everyone. However, it's still legal for card issuers to assess a significant late fee when you're behind on your bill by just one day. When this happens to you, and you're not in the habit of missing your payments, call your credit card's customer service hotline and calmly request that the fee be waived this one time. Most service agents are empowered to make that happen. In fact, the Discover it and Citi Simplicity cards have made that a major part of their marketing campaigns.

4. Paying twice for car rental insurance

At the airport rental car counter, your clerk can't wait to explain all the things that could go wrong before you head out on unfamiliar roads. Fortunately, carrying the right credit card means you can usually ignore the sales pitch for comprehensive coverage. Many credit cards cover any costs or deductibles your own insurance won't pay after a rental car accident.

5. Failing to notice charges for services you don't use

Incremental fees for services like credit monitoring and payment protection plans can creep up on you. Federal regulators slapped Chase with fines and penalties for tacking add-on services to some customers' accounts without permission. However, it's more likely that you opted in to a monthly charge when you activated a new card or accepted a rewards offer over the phone. Check your statement for small charges that often get lost among all your other transactions, then call to cancel services you don't think you'll ever use.

6. Buying sports and concert tickets from a scalper

Don't settle for paying exorbitant ticket prices at a ticket brokerage or in the venue's parking lot. Many credit card issuers now offer exclusive pre-sale periods for concerts, sporting events and theatrical performances. Early access doesn't just mean a better selection of available tickets -- it reduces your wait time online or on the phone with ticket sellers. In fact, a handful of elite cards provide concierge services that can even handle your booking for you.

7. Paying for too much roadside assistance

Your car manufacturer, your insurance company and even your cell-phone carrier all offer monthly plans for short-range towing, jump starts and lock-outs. Before paying extra for access to these dispatch services, check your credit card's list of member benefits. Many Visa Signature and American Express cards, along with premium cards bearing the Discover and MasterCard logos, offer free or deeply discounted roadside assistance services.

8. Paying too much for big-ticket items

That gadget, outfit or piece of jewelry doesn't seem so sparkly when you see it go on sale weeks after your purchase. Instead of suffering buyer's remorse, make those purchases with a credit card that offers price protection as a cardholder benefit. For instance, cards with Citi's Price Rewind program will automatically track your registered purchases. If your retailer offers a price drop of more than $25 within about a month after your initial transaction, Citi will get you a statement credit for the difference.

Credit card deals can change frequently, but your bank must notify you in writing if they plan to substantially change or eliminate any of your card's key features or benefits. When you're shopping for a new credit card, look past the big numbers on the signup offer to find out whether your potential offer will save you money or set you up for hidden costs.

Rick Ross Buys Evander Holyfield’s 109-Room Mansion

Rick Ross just bought former boxing champion Evander Holyfield’s Atlanta mansion. Holyfield lost the property last year due to foreclosure. The mansion, which is in Fayetteville County, Ga., was built back in 1994. The rapper’s new house has an indoor pool, a movie theater and a bowling alley. There are 12 bedrooms, and the dining room seats 100 people. Of course, it’s not a cheap place to live with all of those awesome features. Holyfield reportedly told The Atlanta Journal Constitution that the mansion cost him about $1 million per year to operate, and electricity bills came in at around $17,000. Despite the large bills, Ross has an awesome new mansion. The 45,000-square-foot mansion hit the market for $8.2 million. We’re not sure how much Ross paid himself, but the starting price at auction was $2.5 million. The mansion is massive: built in 1994, the house, which sits on 235 acres, features 109 rooms, a bowling alley, a 135-seat movie theater, an Olympic-size pool and a baseball field.

EQUUS BASS770

Tucked quietly in a back corner of Michigan Hall is an intriguing new car creating buzz at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. At first glance, the Equus Bass 770 may appear to be a classic Ford Mustang, but a closer look reveals a limited-production supercar dressed in vintage clothing.

This modern muscle car evokes the passion of the great designs and nameplates of the 1960s and 1970s, incorporating styling elements from a number of different models but most noticeably the silhouette and fastback roofline of the iconic Ford Mustang.

Beneath classic lines lie the latest elements of automotive technology — an aluminum chassis, aluminum body lined with carbon fiber, Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, GM's Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

The Bass 770 is powered by the General Motors LS9 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that also powers the Chevrolet C6 Corvette ZR1. The 640 horsepower is delivered through a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Performance specs from Equus indicate a top speed of 200 mph and 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds.

Inside, the Bass 770 combines high-end luxury with modern ergonomics while still paying homage to 1960s muscle. The interior is wrapped in hand-stitched leather with an Alcantara headliner and bright metal accents. Modern equipment includes automatic climate control, GPS navigation and CD/DVD entertainment system.

Produced by Equus Automotive in Rochester Hills, Mich., the Bass 770 has been under development for six years and starts at $250,000. Options include wheels, colored or chromed brake calipers, additional lights, black chrome trim, engine cover and upgraded audio system.

For the new owner who wants more personalization, customization or exclusive options, the Bass 770 Bespoke begins at $300,000 and pairs the owner with a dedicated designer. The focus may be on more refined luxury, lighter weight for track use, additional body enhancements or even a completely new design.

Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors. "MLK Day" is a chance to start the year off right by making an impact in our communities.

In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the annual theme for this federal holiday is "Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not a Day Off!!"

August 28, 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington where Dr. King delivered his renowned "I Have A Dream" speech and this year's holiday is a perfect opportunity for Americans to honor Dr. King's legacy through service. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, breaks down barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a beloved community.

Making time to volunteer is a great way to engage with your community while honoring the legacy of Dr. King. Whether you plan on grabbing a paintbrush, mentoring a young person, or helping to clean up a public space, know that what you do makes a world of difference. For more information about the MLK Day of Service and what's taking place across the country, visit www.MLKDay.gov.

Blackphone: The World’s First Privacy-Focused Smartphone

Image of Blackphone: The World's First Privacy-Focused Smartphone
The digital age has translated into an age of communication, and as a result, surveillance from government agencies. Understandably, the discussion has become a point of contention amongst smartphone users, who argue against the invasive, encroaching cooperation between government and phone service providers. Adding a new element to the discussion is Spanish technology company Geeksphone, who is allegedly set to unveil an unlocked, ”top performing” Android-based mobile device. The GSM-compatible “Blackphone” will be free of geographical restrictions, and will utilize a skin called ”PrivatOS” that will enable smartphone functionality (texting, web browsing, secure calling) to run privately through an anonymous VPN. While other details are relatively scant, look for them to roll in around the Mobile World Congress next month.

Google’s Smart Contact Lens Project

Image of Google's Smart Contact Lens Project
Google Glass has yet to reach the market but Google is already working on its latest wearable technology with a new smart contact lens in development. Primarily designed for medical applications for now, the new lens is made up of two layers of “biocompatible” lens material with a wireless chip, antenna, and a sensor sandwiched in between. The sensor is designed to measure glucose levels in the wearer’s tears, giving diabetics an easier and less intrusive way to monitor their condition. At present, Google is hoping to secure support from partners with more experience in the medical market as well as the FDA to ensure development goes smoothly.

Nas Has A New Home: Harvard University

After seeing things like Young Guru and 9th Wonder moonlighting as teachers at universities, courses on 2Pac's lyrics, and Lil B speaking at NYU, seeing Harvard - albeit one of the whitest colleges in 'Murica - delve into hip hop culture and creating a fellowship for Nasir shouldn't be a shock or surprise to anybody at this point. Nonetheless, it's still a dope accomplishment.
When multi-platinum hip hop artist Nas was growing up in the housing projects in Queensbridge, New York, he probably wouldn’t have guessed Harvard would ask to create a hiphop fellowship in his name 30 years later. But it’s happening. So how do you design a home for hip hop at Harvard? We ventured to find out.

Millions of accounts compromised in Snapchat hack

 Watch this video

Hackers appear to have posted account info for 4.6 million users of quickie social-sharing app Snapchat, making usernames and at least partial phone numbers available for download.

The data were posted to the website SnapchatDB.info. By late Wednesday morning, that site had been suspended.
The hack was seemingly intended to urge Snapchat to tighten its security measures. The anonymous hackers said they used an exploit created by recent changes to the app, which lets users share photos or short videos that disappear after a few seconds.

"Our motivation behind the release was to raise the public awareness around the issue, and also put public pressure on Snapchat to get this exploit fixed. It is understandable that tech startups have limited resources but security and privacy should not be a secondary goal. Security matters as much as user experience does," the hackers said in a statement to technology blog TechCrunch.

In the statement, the hackers said they blurred the last two digits of the phone numbers they posted but were still considering whether to post more with the full number visible.

By Wednesday afternoon, developers had used the data to set up a website letting Snapchat users find out whether their accounts had been compromised.
Snapchat did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
Last week, Gibson Security -- a group of "white hat" hackers, meaning they don't exploit the security gaps they find -- published what they said was code that would enable such a hack. The SnapchatDB group said Snapchat implemented "very minor obstacles" after that.

"We know nothing about SnapchatDB, but it was a matter of time til something like that happened," Gibson Security wrote Wednesday on its Twitter account. "Also the exploit works still with minor fixes."

In a blog post Friday, Snapchat appeared to minimize the potential damage from such a hack, claiming that it would require a "huge set of phone numbers, like every number in an area code," to match usernames to numbers.

"Over the past year we've implemented various safeguards to make it more difficult to do. We recently added additional counter-measures and continue to make improvements to combat spam and abuse," the post read. "Happy Snapping!"
