Marcos Maidana Beats Adrien Broner For WBA Welterweight Championship


Adrien Broner wants a rematch.

Notorious trash talker Adrien Broner lost the WBA welterweight championship to Marcos Maidana on Saturday (Dec. 14) night in San Antonio, Texas.

The two duked it out at the Alamodome, with the heavily favored Broner falling to the ground twice before the judges awarded Maidana the victory after twelve rounds of boxing. The judges scores were 115-110, 116-109 and 117-109 in favor of Maidana. Maidana landed 231 punches, to Broner's 122.


After his defeat Broner, aka "The Problem," ran out of the ring. It was his first lost in some 28 fights. The Argentinian-bred Maidana now has a record of 35-3, while Broner, only 24 remains at 27-1, 22 KOs.


"I'm OK. I'm still the three-time world champion in three different weight classes," Broner said. "Tonight, Maidana was just the better man, but we fought a hell of a fight. I hope the fans got what they deserved. ... I'm still going to live like we won the fight. I'm still going to party."


He added, "I want a rematch."


Fellow boxer Floyd Mayweather had words of support for Broner after his defeat.
