Blackphone: The World’s First Privacy-Focused Smartphone

The digital age has translated into an age of communication, and as a result, surveillance from government agencies. Understandably, the discussion has become a point of contention amongst smartphone users, who argue against the invasive, encroaching cooperation between government and phone service providers. Adding a new element to the discussion is Spanish technology company Geeksphone, who is allegedly set to unveil an unlocked, ”top performing” Android-based mobile device. The GSM-compatible “Blackphone” will be free of geographical restrictions, and will utilize a skin called ”PrivatOS” that will enable smartphone functionality (texting, web browsing, secure calling) to run privately through an anonymous VPN. While other details are relatively scant, look for them to roll in around the Mobile World Congress next month.
